In response to the global climate crisis, the need for carbon neutrality has become a critical requirement rather than an option. The establishment of self-sufficient green energy systems is now a prerequisite for sustainable business growth. Companies located in national industrial complexes recognize the necessity of achieving carbon neutrality, but many small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) find it challenging to build such systems independently.
As a solution, distributed energy systems utilizing renewable energy sources like solar power are emerging as alternatives to fossil fuel-based centralized power. This trend aligns with the ongoing initiative by the Gwangju High-tech Industrial Complex, which aims to transform into a self-sufficient eco-friendly industrial park. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, along with the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, has initiated a project to establish a smart green industrial complex, collaborating with the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology since August 2022.
The project involves the application of Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) and Photovoltaic Thermal (PVT) systems to buildings and facilities within the complex, promoting energy independence for enterprises. According to projections by the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, the revenue of companies utilizing intelligent distributed energy systems could increase by 10% compared to their current earnings, particularly given the market demand for renewable energy sources.
Ooitech, leveraging its 15 years of experience in the solar industry, is excited to announce its participation in the upcoming 2025 Korea International Green Energy Expo, taking place from April 23 to 25 in Daegu, South Korea. Our booth, located at O-160 and O-170, will showcase our innovative BIPV solar panel production line, demonstrating how our technology can contribute to the region's green energy goals.
The expo presents a valuable opportunity for Ooitech to engage with industry leaders and stakeholders in the renewable energy sector, discussing the advantages of BIPV technology. Our BIPV solutions are designed to integrate seamlessly into building structures, providing high output and durability while minimizing environmental impact. This approach not only supports carbon neutrality efforts but also promotes economic growth within local communities.
With a total investment of 21.7 billion KRW, the center established within the Gwangju complex will house 35 types of equipment necessary for the production of distributed energy materials and components, including BIPV string manufacturing. Companies in the industrial complex will benefit from expert consulting, technology transfer, and tailored research and development to enhance their capabilities in adopting distributed energy solutions.
Dr. Jeong Chae-hwan, an engineering researcher at the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, emphasized the significance of BIPV and PVT systems in mitigating the environmental impacts associated with traditional large-scale solar installations. He noted that these technologies are designed for application on rooftops, walls, canopies, and balconies, thus preserving the environment while providing robust energy solutions.
As the adoption of intelligent distributed energy systems increases, companies will have the opportunity to manage energy production and revenue generation through AI-driven energy management. This shift towards becoming 'prosumers' will empower businesses to take control of their energy usage and create additional income streams.
The establishment of a comprehensive support system for intelligent distributed energy is expected to significantly contribute to the growth of local enterprises. The Korea Industrial Complex Corporation plans to collaborate with businesses on product commercialization in the materials, components, and technology fields, paving the way for new growth opportunities in the region.
In conclusion, as we prepare for our participation in the Green Energy Expo, we invite you to visit our booth O-160 and O-170 to learn more about how Ooitech's BIPV solutions can revolutionize energy production in South Korea.
